The library will presents a new art show titled “Finding Home: Seeking to Belong in a Daunting World,” by Kathleen Noyes and Rebecca Poole-Heyne. Through this show, the two artists search for the meaning of home and belonging through their work and friendship. Themes of identity, nature, connection and disconnection, vulnerability, and culture are shared by both artists in very different ways. The public is invited to a reception with the artists on Saturday, November 14, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Kathleen Noyes is exploring the concept of people’s need for finding a “home,” an individual identity within the collective in a world with a disintegrating senseof belonging. She wonders about the place of race, culture, sexuality, religion, worldview, citizenship, ideology in our lifetime.
Rebecca Poole-Heyne is inspired by the landscapes she sees in her ordinary daily life. The ditches, parking lots, and ponds in her yard throughout the seasons have an enduring quality that is grounding yet chaotic and dramatic at the same time. She is most at home when she is outside in nature.
The two artists say they are “super excited” to show their work together at the library, adding, “Our friendship is so important to our lives as artists that it just shines through when we get to see our work together. We love it.”
The show will be available for viewing starting November 2, subject to the Howard Room meeting schedule. For more information, contact the library at 374-5515.
