This is my second time as a BHPL Board member; the first time being over 15 years ago. I am now retired from a working career as a designer and builder of private homes, including a couple of schools thrown into that mix. I have previously served as a Board member for The Bay School, as well as two other private schools;… in other States. “Never stop learning’ has been something of a lifelong Mantra of mine and by extension, for my whole family. It has been almost 40 years now that this remarkable community library of ours has served as an ‘oasis’ for three generations of our family. It has helped to ‘quench a thirst’ for us in its offerings of books, lectures, readings, art work displays, a ‘safe space’ for our young adults and those occasional ‘meet ups’ with our other like minded neighbors. I walk into its’ doors and I immediately feel … ‘quiet peace’ …enveloping me.
I have a very ‘eclectic handbag’ of experiences and skills that I wholeheartedly offer in commitment through this current Board membership. But above and beyond those, is an absolute certainty in my commitment, that as technology…in all its applications and forms, while permeating every aspects of our lives,( …often amazingly helpful, but other times almost overwhelming…), is still incapable of matching ‘Humanity’ in its most selfless, cooperative and sharing achievements. Our library is the embodiment of this best of human vision, effort, cooperation and support.
I hope I can be of help.
