Ways you can support the Blue Hill Public Library
Over 80% of the Blue Hill Public Library funding comes from patrons through direct donations, fees and its endowment. Currently, less than 20% is provided by 4 area towns: Blue Hill, Penobscot, Sedgwick and Surry, with the bulk of that support coming from Blue Hill. BHPL depends on YOUR support to fulfill our mission. There are many ways to give to the library—annual gifts, 4-season giving, gifts to the endowment, gifts in kind, business sponsorship and membership in the Friends of the Library—to name a few. All financial contributions to the library are tax deductible, to the extent allowable by law and we are grateful for each and every one.

Join Four Season Giving
Another way to support the annual appeal and spread your generosity throughout the year is to join Four Seasons Giving, the library's automated giving program. Four Seasons allows you to make incremental contributions to the library throughout the year. This helps you budget and possibly increase your support.
Approximately one quarter of the library’s budget comes from the Annual Appeal. The library raises money for the Annual Fund through a general mailing in the fall as well as direct solicitation of individuals, corporations, and foundations. Donations to the Annual Appeal may be made at any time during the year by sending a check to:
Blue Hill Library
5 Parker Point Rd
Blue Hill, ME 04614
Any donation to the library can become a memorial gift by notifying us who you would like to memorialize or honor. These donations are published in our annual newsletter donor list. Books or furnishings given “in memory of” or “in honor of” individuals may be designated by a memorial bookplate or plaque.
As long as they are consistent with the mission of the library, gifts can be designated for special programs or areas of interest of the donor. Call the Library Director to discuss your ideas.
The library is proud to partner with area businesses through direct donations to our Annual Appeal or financial and in-kind support of library fundraising events. Sponsors are acknowledged in event signage, promotion and program guides. For more information contact the library’s development office at 374-5515 ext. 16.
The Blue Hill Public library accepts bequests of cash, securities, or other property made through your estate plans. Bequests go toward the Blue Hill Public Library’s endowment where they provide perpetual support for the library’s mission. The library depends on its endowment to cover a sizeable portion of the library’s operating budget. The library would not be possible without the generous legacy gifts left to the library by loyal patrons, beginning with Adelaide Pearson whose financial support and vision made the Blue Hill Public Library what it is today. Significant bequests are honored with membership in the Adelaide Pearson Society.Contact the development office for more information on how to leave the library a bequest. The library’s official name and Tax ID # is: Blue Hill Public Library # 01-0212602.
Gifts of art, books, and other tangible objects will be accepted in accordance with the library gift policy as long as no conditions are attached. The library has been particularly fortunate in the past in receiving fine paintings, sculpture, furniture, equipment and estate items from donors. Such gifts are accepted at the discretion of the library board with the recommendation of the library director. Although the library will acknowledge such gifts for tax purposes, the library staff is not authorized to appraise such gifted materials. It is the donor’s responsibility to obtain the appraisal prior to transfer of ownership to the library.
Friends of the Blue Hill Library
The Friends of the Library raise money, primarily through used book sales, to support various library programs and activities not covered in the operating budget. Examples of the Friends of the Library activities include used books sales, movies, lectures, receptions, and special children's programs. The Friends have purchased furnitures, audio-visual equipment, CDs and DVDs. Membership in the Friends costs $10/household. Memebers receive a monthly newsletter with new titles and upcoming Friend's sponsored events. Download our Membership Form (PDF). Other ways to support the Friends: volunteer, donated used books and shop at their monthly, weekly (summer) and online used book sales.
Thank you for considering the library as a recipient of your generosity.
