The Blue Hill Public Library will host an exhibit, “Oldstones
Photography: Stories of People, Places, and Things,” by Sedgwick photographer
Geoffrey Huppe in the Blue Hill Public Library’s Britton Gallery and Howard Room
during the month of July. This is his first show. The photos were taken on travels by
motorcycle and bicycle through Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Morocco, Sicily, Spain,
France, and Thailand. The public is invited to an opening on Tuesday, July 1, 3:00 to
5:00 p.m.

In an interview, Huppe said that with the arrival of his 60th birthday in 2017, he realized
there was much that he wanted to do and see. He bought a motorcycle, packed it up and
headed to Mexico.  As an airline pilot he had visited Mayan ruins and became enthralled.
He wanted to visit as many as he could and to take pictures of the trip. He said, “Since
that time I have motorcycled from my home in Maine through Mexico, Guatemala, and
Belize.  I have spent time in Italy, Sicily, Thailand, Egypt, England, and have
rediscovered my love for France.” Huppe admires the works of French photographer
Henri Cartier-Bresson, who is known for candid photography, and says he strives to
emulate him.

These days Huppe has given up motorcycling for bicycling and has bicycled through
Morocco. The exhibit will be available for viewing starting July 2, subject to the Howard
Room meeting schedule. For more information, contact the library at 374-5515.
