January 3, 2022 - January 31, 2022
Sedgwick artist Mary Barnes will present a series of 14 monoprints in a show
titled 7&7 at the Blue Hill Public Library starting January 4. 7&7 is based on the seven
virtues and the seven sins, an exploration of words, language, emotion and visual experience.
The public is invited to a discussion on Saturday, January 8, from 10 am to noon, with Mary Barnes and Marcia Stremlau, who also has a show at the Blue Hill Library, in the Howard Room glass cases.
Each image in 7&7 was formed directly by using the press as a drawing tool, making several passes with different plates in one session. The large abstractions slowly revealed the
emotional content of each word over time. The end result is fourteen full-color prints made with soy-based inks printed on 100% rag paper.
Mary Barnes began her art career as a printmaker. In art school on the west coast she shifted to drawing and painting. For over 35 years, Barnes has pursued an active career creating art, exhibiting, and teaching. The recent return to printmaking was to explore spontaneity and develop a new intuitive approach to printmaking. Mary Barnes has lived in Sedgwick, Maine, for 18 years.
The exhibit will be available for viewing in the Britton Gallery and Howard Room during
library hours through January 29, subject to the Howard Room schedule. A portion of the
proceeds from the sale of artwork will go to benefit the library. For more information, contact the llibrary at 374-5515.
