August Art Show: Summer Dreams

calendar icon August 1, 2022 - August 31, 2022

The Blue Hill Public Library is pleased to announce the opening of Summer Dreams, a group exhibition curated by Jennifer Mitchell-Nevin and Marcia Stremlau, during the month of August, with an opening reception on Friday, August 5th from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. This highly anticipated show is an August tradition at the library. This year it features abstract and representational paintings, works on paper, accordion books, sketchbooks and pottery. The exhibit includes nine artists, selected by the curators “for their gravitational pull to the air and sky.”

About the show Jennifer Mitchell-Nevin says, “As winter recedes into spring and the atmosphere warms, we move outside to explore what nature has left us. Summer Dreams is the culmination of what we have achieved over the winter in anticipation of what we look forward to– the warmth of summer which breathes new ideas of what we love most; light, hues and structure.”

Works that will be shown by Amy Bernhardt, Heidi Daub, Pamela Elias, and Margaret Hunt reflect abstractions, while Sarah Faragher, Kate Emlen, and Marcia Stremlau will exhibit representational landscapes, along with Stremlau’s watercolor accordion books. Mary Barnes will show mono prints from a recently completed series, Vices and Virtues. And the show will feature Caroline Mayher’s elegant hand-built pottery, influenced by Japanese techniques and styles.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of artwork will benefit the library. The Blue Hill Library is an independent non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of donors to meet its annual operating budget. The show will be open for viewing Monday through Saturday in August during library hours, with viewing of those works in the Howard Room subject to the meeting room schedule.
