BHPL Board Member: Macy Lasky

Macy LaskyMacy Lasky, a library board veteran, is a valuable member of the Finance Committee, Chair of the Personnel Committee and was a dedicated member of the Strategic Planning Committee. You may have seen her lending a hand at the Annual Plant Sale or upstairs browsing the mystery section looking for the one or two books she hasn’t yet read.

Originally hailing from Philadelphia, Macy spent her working years in Washington, DC. Her extensive career began running a head start program, and when her children were young, bookkeeping at a real estate office. After receiving her MA in Special Ed, she worked as a math specialist in a school for students with learning disabilities. Macy and her husband, Bob, started summering in Deer Isle in the mid-1970s and in 2003, moved here full time. Since then she can be found volunteering most week-days in math classes at the Deer Isle School. She has served on boards at Seamark Community Arts, Haystack, The Reach, and Healthy Island Project, as well as on the advisory board at The Opera House. Macy loves to walk with her dog Reggie, as well as hike, knit, cook, work on incredible wooden puzzles and collect fine-art craft pieces of glass and basketry. Macy’s third term on the board ends next year. We will miss her at meetings but know she will remain a devoted friend and wise advisor to BHPL. —By Maria Matthews
