BHPL is excited to offer a film series just for teens. We will be watching films from a variety of genres including indie/science fiction, action, anime/foreign, horror, comedy, and drama. Several of our films are based on young adult novels and they explore everything from social justice issues, to mental health, to time travel!
For Black History Month our film is “Get Out” and the genre is horror.“Get Out” is an ambitious and challenging film that feels fresh and sharp in a way that studio horror movies almost never do. It is both unsettling and hysterical, often in the same moment, and it is totally unafraid to explore the complexities of racism. We need more directors willing to take risks with films like “Get Out.”
Our Teen Film Series welcomes teens of all ages, with a suggested age range of 13 and up. The movies we watch together cover a wide range of subjects and styles, and we encourage teens and their families to research them in advance and decide which are right for you and your teen.
